Subband Space-Time Adaptive Processing for Mobile Communications

Abstract This paper proposes the scheme of subband spacetime adaptive processing (SSTAP) for mobile communications. Unlike the available array processing methods, this scheme combines the advantages of the space-time adaptive processing (STAP) and the subband signal processing. It is known that the main difficulties for the real-time implementation of STAP are due to its huge computation burden and the performance degradation due to low convergence rate in multipath environments. SSTAP offers an efficient way to solve the problems. SSTAP greatly reduces the computation burden in each subband, and, in turn, provides faster convergence speed by performing parallel signal processing. Therefore, the proposed SSTAP is very important in the real-time implementation of STAP. The simulation results show that SSTAP outperforms conventional STAP both in mitigating multipath fading and in suppressing cochannel interference (CCI) and multiuser access interference (MUAI) for mobile communications systems.
